Diogo holds the position of Professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Lisbon, where he also serves as Director of the Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Additionally, he holds the role of Senior Graduate Assistant in Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Santa Maria Hospital.
He is co-inventor of the “Omniview-SisPorto”, a programme for automated analysis of cardiotocography (Speculum, Lisbon, Portugal, 2006), the clinical records program “Obscare” (Virtualcare, Porto, Portugal) and the obstetric simulator “Lucina” (CAE Healthcare, Montreal, Canada, 2014).
His h-index stands at 40, with over 160 articles published in internationally indexed journals. Additionally, he has edited two international books and delivered over 300 invited lectures at international scientific conferences. He served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Acta Obstétrica e Ginecológica Portuguesa, from 2006 to 2010 and as an Associate Editor of the journal “ISRN Obstetrics and Gynecology” from 2012 to 2014.
He is the President of the European Association of Perinatal Medicine and member of the Executive Board of the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Additionally, he coordinates the European Examination in Obstetrics and Gynecology, focusing on evaluating clinical skills. From 2010 to 2018, he was part of the Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health Committee of the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO), leading the development of the 2015 FIGO guidelines on intrapartum fetal monitoring. In 2016, he contributed to consensus panels on Recommendations for Antenatal Care, Intrapartum Care, and the Reduction of Unnecessary Caesarean Sections for the World Health Organization.
He also holds the position of President of the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Portuguese Societies. Furthermore, he chaired the National Commission for the Reduction of Cesarean Section Rates and the Commission for Monitoring Emergency Obstetric and Gynecological Response/Delivery Block. He is an honorary member of the “Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists” (2022), from the “Hellenic Society of Perinatal Medicine” (2022) and the “Romanian Society of Fetal and Neonatal Medicine” (2023).
